Rihanna made an appearance at the Ivy League school to accept a plaque given to her by Allen Counter, the director of the Harvard Foundation. She was named Humanitarian of the Year by Harvard University. 29-year-old star, who by the way has never graduated high school, was honored thanks for her charitable efforts. She created an oncology center in Barbados to fight breast cancer ans found the non-profit, The Clara Lionel Foundation Global Scholarship Program, to assist in funding Caribbean-born students who attend college in the U.S. Rihanna also backs the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, that provides ‘access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls, and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.’

Rihanna becomes the 1st female singer to receive Harvard University’s  "Humanitarian of the Year.“ Very deserving.

i fucking hate dating nerds one single time i wore a star wars shirt to see a dude and he was like, “wow are u wearing that to impress me” and i said, “star wars episode 4 was seen by approximately 110 million people during its initial theatrical run in 1977”

Congratulations. You’re dating people who for the longest time have been putting up with bullying, mocking, and scorn for most of their lives. That kind of shit stays with people. So imagine their surprise when they see a member of the opposite sex, who I’m assuming is really attractive in comparison to most people, wear attire that reps nerd culture. Which even though is accepted by the masses (if you’re reasonably attractive) is still rare. Now I’m not saying that you’re not allowed to be scornful I’m just saying expect it and don’t be surprised when you hear it. Ok? OK.

why i dont date fucking nerds: exhibit B

Bolded emphasis mine. Gross.

Stands on nearest chair: ATTENTION MALE NERDS. YOU ARE NOT SUFFERING FROM A SHORTAGE OF FEMALE NERDS. THERE ARE VAST NUMBERS OF US, AND WE RARELY HAVE A HARD TIME FINDING EACH OTHER. YOU ARE WITHOUT FEMALE COMPANY BECAUSE YOU ARE WHINEY ASSBABIES WHO THINK YOU OWN THINGS BECAUSE YOU LIKE THEM, AND BECAUSE YOU SOMEHOW THINK YOU SUFFER BULLYING WHEREAS GIRL NERDS SOMEHOW NEVER DO. STOP PRETENDING YOU GET TO BE ASSHOLES BECAUSE YOU HAVE A “TRAGIC PAST” OR YOU WILL DIE ALONE. IF YOU THINK GIRL NERDS DON’T GET BULLIED IT’S LIKELY BECAUSE THOSE GIRLS DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU, BECAUSE OF THIS SORT OF ATTITUDE.

also: fucking no one mocks nerds anymore. Game of thrones is the most watched show on tv, everyone and their mom is playing video games, dungeons and dragons is more popular than it’s ever been.

i’m obligated to reblog the Critical Whale

Fucking thank you

If you’re a fan of Moulin Rouge or Great Gatsby, watch The Get Down because it was created by Baz Luhrmann, who also co-wrote and directed both films.

If you like musicals, watch The Get Down.

If you like 70′s aesthetics, New York City, hip hop, or disco, watch The Get Down.

If you claim to want or support actual representation for people of color, watch The Get Down, which has a majority black and latinx cast and has, like, two white people who only show up a couple times.

If you want LGBT representation, watch The Get Down. If you want to know a little bit about the history of black and latinx drag culture, ballroom culture, and LGBT culture, watch The Get Down. If you want to see interracial relationships, watch The Get Down.

If you want to see well written, nuanced women who are complex and who actually make mistakes, watch The Get Down.

If you want a glimpse into the way working-class people struggle with white capitalism, how poverty subjugates people of color, and the struggles young people of color from these communities face, watch The Get Down.

Watch The Get Down. It hasn’t received a tenth of the amount of attention it deserves, and we know that it’s because it has a majority black and latinx cast. Tumblr can’t handle such things, but seriously I encourage you to watch it.
